Improving Food Safety with X-Ray Inspection Systems

Did you know that nearly 75 food recalls were reported in Australia in 2022? (https://www.foodstandards.gov.au/industry/foodrecalls/recallstats/pages/default.aspx) Yes, that’s true. While there are several reasons for such recalls, foreign material contamination is a prominent one. That is why product inspection proves to be an indispensable part of the food industry. Are you wondering how to detect harmful contaminants and ensure the safety of food items? In that case, leveraging x-ray for food inspection is a smart move. Read on to explore more details about these systems. Let’s dive in!

Why Invest in the Food X-ray Inspection Systems?

  • Quality Assurance

In your production line, contamination can happen at any time. The presence of impurities or contaminants like metal, plastic, glass, or rubber can affect the quality of food and may pose health risks for individuals. However, leveraging the x-ray for food inspection can help identify contaminants and improve the quality and safety of the food products.

  • Prevent Costly Scenarios

The presence of any contaminants in the food products can result in serious consequences for your business. You may have to discard the entire batch, thereby leading to massive wastage. Moreover, you will have to suffer disruption in your supply chain and lost sales. Also, food recalls are also a possibility. Relying on the food inspection systems and discovering the potential contamination early can help you avoid these costly scenarios effectively.

  • Protect the Reputation of the Company

Contamination of food not only results in financial loss but also affects the brand’s reputation. If it gives rise to any health issues, your consumers may file lawsuits against your company. As a result, it can have a negative impact on the reputation of your brand in the market. Moreover, it might even lower the trust of your customers in your business. To avoid all such hassles, making use of the x-ray food inspection systems is an ideal decision.

  • Meet the Regulatory Requirements

The food processing companies need to comply with several laws and regulations. The food inspection machines allow them to control the quality of their final products and effectively ensure compliance with the necessary regulations. As a result, avoiding compliance costs becomes simple and easy.

  • Ease of Use

The food inspection systems are designed with simple touchscreen interfaces to enable manufacturers to use them with ease. With minimal training, you can leverage the machine and improve the quality of the products.

What are the Different Types of Contaminants and Defects the X-ray Systems can Detect?

The x-ray inspection systems can identify the following:

  • Contaminants like stones, fibreglass, PVC, rubber, glass, Teflon, ceramic, and bones
  • Packaging defects like cracks and deformations
  • Non-magnetic, non-ferrous, and stainless-steel metal contaminants
  • Air bubble detection
  • Fill and completeness levels in the closed packages

 Conclusion

The food inspection systems allow the effective detection of contaminants and increase product safety. The core aim is to satisfy the customers and boost sales and revenues. Laumas launches first ever 4 channel Weight Transmitter

Best-Rated Filling Machines Suppliers - Laumas Elletronica - OPTIMA Weightech

The new series of TLB4 Transmitters represents an innovation of a product introducing some important new features and improvements; the new container by the original design Laumas provides a greater flexibility of use than the TLB series and can be installed on the front or back panel depending on the application requirements.

Another strong point of the new series is the use of a powerful converter with four independent measuring channels that ensures an in-depth diagnostics of load cells’ signals remotely, allowing a constant monitoring of the distribution of loads and any abnormalities of the linked cells.

The new version allows the digital management of the equalization of signals avoiding the use of the usual equalized junction box or summation boxes.

Some of the most important features are:

  • 4 independent reading channels for load cells
  • Back panel mounting on Omega/DIN rail or front panel mounting
  • RS485 serial port Modbus RTU
  • Fieldbuses (optional): Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET IO, Ethernet/IP, Ethernet TCP/IP, EtherCAT, POWERLINK, DeviceNet, CANopen, CC-Link, SERCOS III
  • Analog output (optional)

Main functions:

  • Access to the diagnostics functions with indication of the distribution of the actual load on each active channel with backups archive: storing, retrieving, printing.
  • Digital equalization: the instrument allows to equalize the response of the linked load cells, in a fast and reliable way over time, avoiding the use of junction boxes by trimmer.
  • Transmission of the divisions for the 4 independent reading channels via RS485 (Modbus RTU) or via fieldbus.
  • Significant events log: zero settings, calibrations, equalizations, errors. The information can be stored, retrieved and printed.
  • Automatic diagnostics: the instrument is designed to store the percentage values of load distribution for each channel, by making comparisons between the recorded values; if a significant variation between the values is detected during normal operation the instrument displays an alarm alternating with the weight value. Depending on the weighing system type it is possible to perform:

1. Load diagnostics: load distribution control in constant barycentre systems (e.g. liquids silo).

2. Diagnostics on zero: check on load cells drift state (eg. silo, weighbridge, platforms).
